Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (and more gadgets) will be announced on November 24

Itā€™s official: Xiaomi will be launching the Redmi Note 3 in less than 6 months of the Redmi Note 2 launch.

Xiaomi teased what we believed to be the Redmi Note 2 Pro prior to today. The company revealed (surprisingly) that itā€™s going to be a Redmi Note 3 and not a Redmi Note 2s/Pro/etc., which comes as a bit of a surprise because the Redmi Note 2 has hardly spent any time on the market so far.

Thi will also be Xiaomiā€™s first ever phone to have a fingerprint sensor. And ā€” love it or hate it ā€” itā€™ll be on the back of the phone, Huawei style.

Not much of a hardware upgrade is expected on the phone, besides the fingerprint sensor. Itā€™ll still have the MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) SoC, and will come in 2/3GB RAM variants and a 13 mega-pixel/5 mega-pixel camera combo.

Xiaomi have also officially given a sneak peek at the Redmi Note 3. And it also officially looks like a Meizu! See below for reference:

Thereā€™s going to be more stuff from Xiaomi besides just the smartphone weā€™re talking about. A picture posted by the company shows a big box, with a caption suggesting that ā€˜even girls can carryā€™. What could that be?

Hereā€™s what you should know about the Redmi Note 3, from our articles in the past:

So, what do you think about Xiaomi giving the Redmi Note 2 hardly any time on the market? Xiaomi pissed some of its Mi 4i customers after it released the Mi 4c, could the move to launch the Redmi Note 3 again prove to be counter-productive?

Very surprising, Are they following Elephone steps?
Only on August you could get the second version in good price and stock, now they release the same processor? Why not upgrade it?
    Honestly ā€“ weird.

Upgrade it to what? The Helio X10 is already the most powerful MTK processor.

Iā€™m having a hard time selling the few last Redmi Note 2, and seems that I will have to sell them at the price I paid for them.. this market is getting out of hand.

You must not be selling it to the right people, the vendors I know that sell Xiaomiā€™s have such a high demand they find it impossible to keep it in stock. Within minutes of getting a new shipment they are sold out.

Maybe but by the time that happens the X30 will probably be out. For a budget phone though there really isnā€™t a better choice than X10 from a cost/performance factor.

the Redmi Note 3 came out due to the competition of Letv (1s) and Meizu (Metal)

thatā€™s why they came out with this phone only 6 months later.
Itā€™s a marketing choice, they donā€™t want to lose customers.
People should be happy rather than critic, they will probably going to get a better phone for the same price.

    • Guaire
      November 23, 2015

Agreed. Thatā€™s a good thing IMO, though that one leaked months before Letv 1s and Meizu Metal both. So it was coming anyway.

It shows they are responding to market trends. And the way things are going 6 months is becoming the new time frame for new models.

Iā€™m getting dispointed from chinese OEMs, they are not putting enough work on their flagship phones anymoreā€¦ I think xiaomi can do so much betterā€¦ Starting from design to SoC choice.

      ā€œflagshipā€? Redmi note? Flagship?

    • balcobomber25
      November 23, 2015

The Redmi Note isnā€™t a flagship. The Redmi series is Xiaomiā€™s budget line. The Mi5 is the next flagship Xiaomi will release.

      • lemsi_86
        November 23, 2015

what i meant is that they are not even putting enough work in supposed flagship devices even more on midrange devices

        • balcobomber25
          November 23, 2015

We donā€™t know what work they are putting on their flagship device as there have been no credible leaks or inside looks at the Mi5. As for this phone it looks like every other metal phone, thereā€™s only so many designs you can do with metal.

no other SD820 came out anyway, and thatā€™s why the MI5 didnā€™t come out yet.

Iā€™m actually glad they waited rather than making a MI5 with a SD810 like many other did.

then you had to wait one more year before seeing a Xiaomi phone with the SD820.

    • Bailey
      November 23, 2015

I could be wrong but the reason there may be no Mi5 is because 820 is not out yet and that is what they are wanting to put in the phone. I suspect that if they put a different chip inside people will moan that the phone is outdated. Android user are very hard to please they are only looking at Facebook or Whatapp and they need an 820 to do it

No MIUI based on Android M = Fingerprint pretty much unlock purpose only = No Android M Fingerprint API

    • balcobomber25
      November 23, 2015

In most countries Xiaomi officially sells in, fingerpint is pretty much limited to unlock. There arenā€™t many advanced features available that take advantage of it. Google Pay is relatively unheard of outside of the US.

      • NightFelix
        November 24, 2015

Nope. Not only Android Pay, some fingerprint API are require for some apps such like unlock using fingerprint to access to the apps like Password Manager alike. Even Paypal apps can make use of it.

        • balcobomber25
          November 24, 2015

Paypal support is limited to Samsung devices right now and it is limited to 25 countries only two of which Xiaomi officially are sold in, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Certainly not coming to India..Xiaomi has already lost the phablet market to Lenovo and Meizu..now 2016 will go to Meizu Metal..Letv 1s..they will go laughing to Bank..selling at least 4 million 5.5 inch phablets..just coz Xiaomi is not working on it advantage it carved in Indian market.

all i have heard here on Gizchina is that ā€œno dual sim, no sd card slotā€ is a deal breaker in India.
Iā€™m sure thereā€™s room for Xiaomi phones too

      • vijay sud
        November 23, 2015

Xiaomi portfolio in India is pretty thin..only Redmi 2 a best seller..rest is mostly left overs like Mi4i..16 Gb..Mi4 16 gb..which no Indian worth his salt would buy..no memory expansion. Via SD card..which Indians dearly love..also buffoons in Xiaomi have chosen to sell only 16GB versions in Mi4 and Mi4i in India..clearly showing poor choice of managers in India by Xiaomi..who have no idea of local market conditions.

        • MaxPower
          November 23, 2015

but you mentioned Meizu and LeTV making sound like they dominate the market leaving no room at all to Xiaomi.

i donā€™t think they have done anything different from Xiaomi.
None of them provide sd card slot (the Redmi note does) and they donā€™t sell the 64GB version either.

          • balcobomber25
            November 23, 2015

Keep in mind though the Redmi Note canā€™t be sold in India due to the Mediatek chipset. Meizu doesnā€™t have that issue.

            • MaxPower
              November 23, 2015

              oh, Iā€™m aware of that.

Iā€™ve seen people begging Xiaomi on bringing the Note to India (how would someone blame them?).

Donā€™t get me wrong, i understand his complaining, i just donā€™t see how Meizu or LeTV are doing anything of different.

            • balcobomber25
              November 23, 2015

The only thing they did different was acquire the rights to sell in India from Ericsson. Other than that they all have phones that donā€™t have SD cards and they all have phones that do. They are all 3 very similar companies in their operation procedure and products.

Forgot to tell you I bit the bullet and bought a 4K TV. I was in Best Buy buying an Ipad for my grandmother for Christmas and I saw the love of my life, a 65 inch LG OLED, it was an open box special and I got the kid to throw in a couple boxes of Kcups for free lol.

if Xiaomi solves the mediatek issue in India then the Note 3 will sell way better than Meizu or Letv because itā€™s cheaper, It has a removable battery, and sd card slot.

              (to be confirmed tomorrow)

            • balcobomber25
              November 23, 2015

Is it confirmed the battery will be removable? Judging by the pictures they are using an all metal unibody design, which usually means the rear canā€™t be removed. But the Meizu Metal also has SD card.

              i donā€™t know, but youā€™re probably right.
but nobody knows if in the near future they will bring the old Note 2 pro.

I wish those 3 companies had official presence in my country, especially the way they are fighting to each other.

like many other here i put $50 to $100 on top of the retail price to get a Chinese phone from a reseller, and Iā€™m saying it with a smile on my face (please donā€™t take this wrong) that our Indian friends are very spoiled

Iā€™d say 3-5 years they will all be officially sold here. America is too large of a cell phone market to avoid. Next up will be the top emerging markets like Russia, Brazil, India (most are there already), Bangladesh etc. Followed by the top Asian markets like South Korea and Japan and then finally the US/Europe.

Hugo Barra announced that the new Hybrid will be sold in the US ā€œvery soonā€ and also the MI4 passed the FCC certification 3 days ago.

              November 23, 2015

Maybe they are going to test the waters with the Mi4 and see how it sells here? Thatā€™s what they are currently doing in Thailand. They had a soft release of the Mi4 tied to one specific carrier.

yeah, there are several countries in the south America that require FCC.

So it might be Mexico like you said

I know quite a few Indianā€™s that own the Mi4 16GB version. Just because you personally value an SD card doesnā€™t mean everyone does.

But you do have a valid point besides that. Xiaomi needs to settle this dispute with Ericsson asap, because they are losing significant ground in India.

    • tauerman
      November 23, 2015

Why you bother? Canā€™t you import Xiaomi devices to India?
I donā€™t go mad because they donā€™t sell their phones in Europe. I just go on import them. There are at least 5 webshops that do this.

Xiaomi India only provides support and service to devices it sells. No A.S.S. for devices one gets from China. In any case customs on devices i buy from Chinese suppliers is much hiegher.

I donā€™t know where anyone is getting 6 monthes from. The redmi Note 2 prime was launched in august and was officially available at the end of August. So basically about 3 monthes ago. Absolutely ridiculous. Xiaomi are definitely the new Samsung no doubt about it. They even have the new touchwiz ā€“ MIUI V7, bloated, laggy, ram hog, overloaded with pointless features and confusing menus. Flooding the market with sub par devices, literally donā€™t understand how everyone is still really into xiaomi. Ver since MIUI V6 they have gone significantly down hill. At least 3 of their current line up have overheating issues and lingering bugs that never get fixed. They never update to recent versions of android ever either. My Mi4i is one of the worst devices iā€™ve owned and my mi note I donā€™t use as some of the software features are so badly implemented, like the awful implementation of multi touch especially in the gallery just painfully jerky, slow to react and annoying to use. Also still riddled with small but annoying bugs too, even small visual glitches in the UI. Maybe my standards are just higher than some peopleā€™s but Iā€™m sorry MIUI is piss poor nowadays. I would take Stock or close to stock android builds like Oxygen OS or even Flyme OS over MIUI any day of the week. I think people who stand by MIUI are either unfamiliar with the other OS build around or just blinded by the aesthetics.
